Green Bean Casserole From Scratch

A homemade version of the classic green bean casserole, made with fresh ingredients and a creamy mushroom sauce.

Ingredients

  • 1pound fresh green beans, trimmed
  • 1 cupmushrooms, sliced
  • 1medium onion, chopped
  • 2 tablespoonsbutter
  • 2 tablespoonsall-purpose flour
  • 1 cupvegetable broth
  • 1 cupheavy cream
  • 1 teaspoongarlic powder
  • 1 teaspoonsoy sauce
  • 1 cupFrench fried onions

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a pot, boil the green beans for about 5 minutes, then drain.
  3. In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat and sauté onions and mushrooms until soft.
  4. Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute.
  5. Add vegetable broth, cream, garlic powder, and soy sauce. Cook until thickened.
  6. Mix in the green beans and half of the French fried onions.
  7. Transfer the mixture to a baking dish and top with remaining French fried onions.
  8. Bake for 25 minutes or until golden brown.

Notes

Use fresh green beans for the best flavor.
You can substitute heavy cream with a non-dairy alternative if needed.
Adjust seasoning to your taste.
