Method
Bloom the Gelatin
- Pour exactly 2 tablespoons of cold water into a small bowl or mug. The water must be cold — this step is non-negotiable. Cold water allows the gelatin granules to hydrate slowly and evenly before they dissolve, preventing lumps in your final drink.
- Sprinkle 1 tablespoon of unflavored gelatin powder evenly over the cold water. Do not stir. Let it sit undisturbed for 5 full minutes. You'll see it absorb the water and become spongy — this is called blooming. It's ready when the surface looks swollen and no dry powder remains.
Dissolve and Mix
- Pour ½ cup of hot (not boiling) water directly over the bloomed gelatin. Whisk vigorously for 30 to 60 seconds until the gelatin is completely dissolved. The liquid should look clear with no visible granules or lumps. If any lumps remain, keep whisking.
- Stir in ⅓ cup of unsweetened cranberry juice and ½ tablespoon of raw apple cider vinegar. Mix well until fully combined. Add the optional teaspoon of lemon juice now if you'd like a brighter flavor. The color will turn a deep ruby red.
Choose Your Format
- Option A — Warm Drink: Drink the mixture immediately while still warm. This is the fastest version and Sara's preferred daily method. Sip slowly over 2 to 3 minutes, about 20 minutes before your meal. The warmth makes it feel more like a comforting pre-meal ritual.
- Option B — Gelatin Cubes: Pour the finished liquid into silicone molds or a shallow glass container. Refrigerate for 2 to 3 hours until fully set. Cut into cubes and store in an airtight container for up to 5 days. Eat 2 to 3 cubes about 20 minutes before your meal.
Consume and Track
- Take the drink or cubes 15 to 30 minutes before your largest meal of the day — typically lunch or dinner. This window allows the gelatin to begin gelling in your stomach before food arrives. Sara noticed a clear difference in hunger levels starting around day 4 of consistent daily use.
Notes
Use unflavored gelatin only — flavored gelatin contains sugar and additives that change the effect. Knox is the most widely available brand. Apple cider vinegar must say 'with the mother' on the label — filtered ACV lacks the beneficial compounds. The cube format is better for batch prep — make a week's worth on Sunday and refrigerate. Warm drink format has a slightly stronger appetite-suppression effect because the heat keeps the gelatin more bioavailable before it gels.
Gelatin cube variation: after mixing, pour into a silicone mold and refrigerate for 2 to 3 hours until set. Remove cubes and eat 3 to 4 cubes 20 minutes before a meal instead of drinking the warm version.
